A Cemetery Playdate!

You know my new friend, Boo the black Dane, sure knows how to show a girl a good time. He?s been busy showing me some of the best dogfriendly places around Sydneysince we moved hereand has taken me to some really cool places.

But I?ll bet you?ll never guess where he took me on a playdate a couple of weeks ago?

?to a wonderfully creepy, spooky cemetery!!

Yup, Camperdown Cemetery isn?t really an official dog park but lots of people take their doggies there to run around. It is a lovely green space in the middle of busy, inner Sydney, surrounded bylots of small houses squashed together and other commercial buildings all around ? so people really love it and take their families there for picnics and other fun events.

There are even supposed to be ghosts haunting the cemetery, you know?like a nurse lady who used to work in Sydney General Hospital (who some say still looks after people with sickies in the church nearby) and a man wearing a brown coat who sits on one of the graves and sometimes talks to human pups?

Well, I don?t sniff any ghosts ? do you, Boo?

Boo? Boo? Where are you?? 8-O

Hee! Hee! ;-) Actually, the cemetery isn?t really creepy at all, especially in the morning sunshine?it?s more like a very pretty but unusual garden! :P

My humans found a lot of the writings on the graves and tombstones very interesting?but it was sad because most of the ages were quite young. Gosh, humans really didn?t live very long before, did they?

Of course, us doggies weren?t really interested in history?we were interested in PLAY!!

I had brought one of my tug toys to play with Boo. He hadn?t played Tug much but I told him it was one of my favourite games so he had to learn!!

C'mon Boo! Just grab the end and PULL!

Yeah! You're getting the hang of it! :P

What d'you mean, "Let go"? YOU let go!

(My human thinks we look like "matched horses" pulling a carriage in this picture - ha! ha!)

.

Boo told me that after his cemetery walk, he usually takes his human to a nearby cafe called Black Star Pastrywhich makes the yummiest pastries?

Oh yeah, Boo! Let?s go!!

To get to Black Star Pastry, we went a way that took us through a bit of King St - this is a famous street in Newtown FULL of restaurants and bars and cafes and other strange shops where people sell blackclothes with lots of spikes and use sharp needles dipped in ink to draw pictures called tattooson your skin?it?s a really buzzy-buzzy place after dark, with LOTS of people wearing weirdclothes, with strange-coloured hair?but it was a bit quieter when we walked through it at 9am in the morning! :D

We still got a lot of ?looks? wherever we walked, though ? from both humans and doggies! ;-) My humans said it?s always a sight to see Great Danes striding through an ?urban environment?!

My human, Hsin-Yi, likes to always include some on-leash,pavement walksthrough more ?urban? streets with traffic & people, as part of my roster of weekly walks.

This keeps up my socialisation and also reminds meto practisemy leash-manners especially near crowds & distractions.

She thinks it isn?t good when doggies just get taken to an off-leash park every day and allowed toshoot off & just dash around, suiting themselves or play madly with other doggies all the time?if they do that all the time, they soon start to forget all their nice walking on leash! ;-)

Well, we soon reached the cafe?which was really busy!! Lots of people waiting in line to buy their yummy pastries or get a cup of tea or coffee.

There was only a little bit of space on the pavement in front of the cafe but me & Boo were very good and we sat politely in the corner, out of everybody?s way, while we waited for our humans to get the yummies. Lots of people walking past were smiling and looking at us, marvelling at how well-behaved we were ? we were very good ambassadors for doggies! :D

Finally ? the humans came out with plates of yummies. Oooh?that smells good!

Oh! But wait! What is Hsin-Yi doing?! She isn?t sharing with me!! Mean, greedy, piggy Hsin-Yi was EATING ALL THE YUMMY HERSELF!!!! 8-O

No matter how much Sad Puppy Dog Eyes I gave her, she didn?t take pity on me?I told you she?s got a heart of stone!!

Paul felt sorry for me and went back into the cafe to buy a croissant especially for me. But I didn?t want a boring, plain croissant! I wanted what Hsin-Yi was having! Humph!

FINALLY!!!

Well, Hsin-Yi did give me half her pastry in the end so I decided to forgive her. And it was really delicious!! Slurp! :P

Thank you so much again, Boo, for taking me on yet another wonderful adventure!!

Sorry, sorry! We still haven?t had time to come round and visit your blogs! :-( And I know we?re slow to answer emails & messages too. Hsin-Yi is back to work and has ?deadlines? again, so she hasn?t got so much free time to help me with blogging and stuff?but I promise we?ll catch up as soon as we can!
